GRF President Mr. Nick Captain

GREETINGS enthusiasts and Si Yu'os Ma'ase to Sam Flores, secretary of the Guam Racquetball Federation (GRF) and creator of this informative website for Guam racquetball news. Guam racquetball reached historic highs during 2000 with local players collecting two International Gold Medals. Veteran Frank Rios brought home gold from the World Senior Championships in Paris, France while Rick L.G. Meno won White Division Gold at the World Championships in Mexico. I am looking forward to see who will represent Guam in August at the Asian Racquetball Championships in Korea.

Frank Rios remains Vice President of the Asian Racquetball Federation and your Board Members are currently discussing offering Guam as a potential host for the 2003 Asian Racquetball Championships. That historic event is contingent upon repairing the damaged racquetball courts at Tiyan. Floor repairs, air-conditioning work and other necessary repairs will be costly. Without air-conditioning in the only two playable courts at Tiyan, we've already lost the ability to train at least two top senior players and the dangerous heat levels severely injure motivation of entry level players much too frequently. Now, Tiyan gym control is in transition to the Department of Parks and Recreation. Will Parks and Recreation step up to the plate and spend what is necessary to maintain Guam's only public racquetball courts?

The Guam Racuqetball Federation Junior Program takes dozen of kids and introduces sport, competition and fair play into their lives. DFS has donated generously in support of the junior program and winners of the pending Junior Qualifier Tournaments will attend the World Junior Championships later this year.

We welcome any and all ideas from Guam racquetball players. I hope that you already joined the Federation, but if not, please call me at 472-1819. If I can personally assist you, please feel free to e-mail me at ncaptain@ite.net. If you are new to Guam or a local veteran, we welcome you to the fast and furious world of Guam Racquetball!

Nick Captain
President
